What should I expect from the first treatment?
Your first visit will begin with an in depth assessment of your condition and an initial treatment.
You’ll be asked about particular details regarding your chief complaint, as well as other aspects of
your life such as your emotions, sleeping patterns, and eating habits. Acupuncture’s diagnostic
system uses all of this information to understand you as a whole person. Strict adherence to patient confidentiality is maintained at all times. The intake and treatment may take up to 1 1/2 hours for
a new patient. Typical treatments afterwards will last approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
How should I prepare for my first visit?
Be sure to eat the day of your treatment, before your appointment. Avoid intense physical activity
before or after your scheduled treatment. You may choose to wear loose, comfortable clothing,
though this is not a requisite.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people who have had acupuncture describe sensations that follow range from feeling nothing
at all, to a tingling sensation or slight pressure or heaviness. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine,
usually not much greater in diameter than a few human hairs.
Are the needles safe?
Yes. All needles are sterile and disposable. Strict safety controls are observed in accordance with
Federal and OSHA regulations.
How many treatments will I need?
The amounts of treatments vary from person to person. Patients often have results after the first
treatment. Chronic conditions usually require more treatments. During the course of treatment,
you should see an improvement in your main complaint as well your overall health.
