The ancient Taoists had extraordinary astute powers of observation on many subjects especially in their findings on the subject of sex. They noted that the ovaries are like factories in the form of eggs and the female anatomy are like generators that produce sexually energy in the form of female hormones; that all the vital organs, such as the brain and kidneys, must contribute some of their own reserves to maintain the ovaries and feminine parts. By carefully exercising the vaginal canal, womb and pelvic bowl with the use of a jade egg performing vaginal weight lifting, women harness their feminine sexual power. The energy is lifted and intensified within, which amplifies her Qi energy where it is transformed into higher spiritual pursuits, as well having the capacity for heightened levels of emBODIment. The multiplying power of sexual energy rejuvenates the body, stimulates the brain, connects us to our hearts and Spirit, enabling us to access the healing capabilities of the energy without it being about sex.
The Kandao Nuns, Shamans, Concubines and other women who cultivated and harnessed their energy carried these illustrious practices forward for their own personal evolution, communal evolution for a spiritual and physical reasons, including our benefit, for the women of the future. Some women were widows or former concubines seeking a way to live independent lives, some were women who wanted to avoid marriage, and some wanted an education that might otherwise not be available to them. These Taoist women had been more interested in spiritual techniques, cultivation, power, and the ability to live independent lives. It is said that many who mastered the techniques experienced excellent health, remaining youthful and flourishing into old age with sexual organs that were as toned and resilient as a young woman. The group of nuns were using it to move the powerful energy from each ovum into the spirit channels and free up congested female sexual energy. The nuns of this time were more than what we think of nuns of the West. The Taoist nuns of their time were in prominent religious positions as initiators, preceptors, and possessors of sacred texts and methods, forming one-third of the clergy and highly skillful in martial arts.
From the beginning, the goal in Taoism, whether you are born biologically as a male or female, has been to unite male and female energies within oneself.
For those of us in modern times who have been cultivating and practicing for years, sharing these alchemical secrets know they penetrate and resolve the problem of the body which plagues so many. It is not about being perfectly spiritual or wanting to get out of the body. It is about realizing and transmuting the shadow, transforming the messiness of having the body, not escaping the body but embracing all that is within. The greatest spiritual difficulty is staying here, living in a body. The purpose of self-cultivation is to return to a mode of existence that is natural, but has been obscured by social conditioning. Repeating certain actions, such as physical exercises, is a way of training the body so that it is free to react in a spontaneous, natural way, in pure spontaneity: to experience a joyful, blissful, long and healthy life.
In our journey we come to refine our “Inner Elixir Skills”. This process requires integrating the physical body’s sexual essence (jing), the energy body (chi), and the spirit body (shen) into a functional state of total openness (wu) to the multi-dimensionality of the present moment. The spiritual power of manifestation hidden within the jing or sexual essence is most critical to cultivating what is known as a ‘golden light body’ or the authentic immortal Self. That begins dissolving the density of the physical body on a very deep level.
A lot of people might do meditations where they visualize dissolving but the Taoist practice kind of works from the inside out. You take the yin and yang energies to the very deepest levels of the core channel and begin neutralizing them, which emits a kind of yuan qi. This original qi has a dissolving effect and is, in effect, creating more space between the molecules of your body, more emptiness
Paradoxically, one feels more human, more aware of the precarious hold spirit has on its physical body. Because you are constantly changing jing to qi to shen and back again, you never feel limited to a physical body. You never feel stuck in any one state.
Your physical body may feel like it is literally swimming in a great sea of qi. As alchemical practice makes you more sensitive, you become aware that all qi flow is shaped by an infinite field of collective intelligence the ancients called shen. It takes practice to remember continuously that this field of collective shen is who you really are
